I thought that the recommended service interval was 2 years or 18000 miles?

My new rear discs that Ford paid for are in perfect condition after approx 6000 miles compared to my originals which were knackered after 500 miles. I had a Ford brake specialist look at mine because of the noise and was told although not really acceptable there isn’t anything to be done but going forward his findings would be reported back to Ford and hopefully new owners would not have the same issue.
He thinks cars sitting before delivery can have a massive affect and poor prep ?.
I had a bmw before and was still on the same discs and pads after 8 years and still in excellent condition.

I too just had my two-year service. I've only done 6500 miles, but the rear discs are pitted, and this, in turn, has caused excessive pad wear. This is not a complete surprise, I live very close to the sea, and the salty air is very corrosive (although oddly, the front discs are fine). I expect these will need to be replaced sooner rather than later. I've had two cars before that suffered the same way.

I suppose I could argue that this is a manufacturing defect. Shouldn't the discs be able to cope with sea air for two years? The argument seems to be the car needs to be driven more frequently, but that's just wasteful.

Hmm that's interesting. Poor quality materials perhaps but yes lack of use and sitting around prior to delivery doesn't help. Once corrosion starts hard to stop. Definitely worth checking if your about to receive a new car. But then why would anyone think to check that.
I noticed the disc's on my ST had some corrosion, on the non braking areas, ie the painted area. So took the trouble to remove wheels in turn and to retreat (brush) all discs with black rust prevention Hammerite metal paint during the summer. Still looking good and with no scouring on the brake surfaces.
To be honest if I do have issues in the future..Then easy enough to replace myself rather than having to pay Ford loads of money to do the job. That said you should never replace discs without brake pad renewal.

I contacted the servicing dealer, and wasn't surprised when he did not agree the discs should be replaced under warranty. So I've written to Ford. The service manager seemed to keep saying the pads were a wear and tear item. Yes, yes, I know. But the pads only wore excessively because the discs were pitted.

I don't expect to get any joy from Ford, but you never know. Perhaps they will treat it as 50:50. I'll let you know.

Could be an ST. 1 year/12500 intervals.

Ford have refused my claim, but are sending a £100 voucher as goodwill. Oh well, I suppose that's something.

Perhaps use the voucher to purchase a set of pads from Ford parts department and maybe add extra money for a disc set? (Assume we are only talking front brakes here?)
Then do the job yourself (if your up for it) or get a local garage to help to save on overall cost? Plus have a brake fluid change at the next due service.
It is a relatively easy job to replace a disc/pad set.
That said, I purchased a set of rear pads from Ford for my ST and well omg they are not cheep.

Ford gave me a voucher for 460 which is what the dealer charged. Maybe because my mileage was less, rears have stayed in good condition since replacement.
Not sure how much they would be to buy from a motor factors
