Can anyone tell me how many members this forum has? Is more than, say, 100? Whatever the number, it must be a minuscule percentage of the number of Puma owners in the UK, so the number of reports of gearbox problems reported here must , logically and statistically, evidence a vastly greater problem than we can know and than Ford has declined to admit to.

1892 users according to this. Some will have moved on though.

I have seen some reported issues on Facebook but they could be duplicates of the ones here. Ford Owners UK is quite busy but not sure how many Puma owners are on there.

The numbers are irrespective really as a manual gearbox should last the life of the car and from what I have read it seems the synchromesh gears are sub-standard.

Fortunately, i only bought the car less than 2 years ago from Ford Direct with a 2 year warranty. It's 70 plate with only 22k on the clock. Hopefully I'll be covered.
It's booked into the local Ford dealer on 3rd Sept. I'll update once I know what they find and say!
In the meantime, I'm driving around gently and missing out 2nd.

Hi
Local Ford dealer diagnosed internal fault with gearbox and quoted £1780 to replace it. Fortunately my 2yr warranty for buying second hand from Ford Direct was still in date, so I didn't have to pay anything. There were no gearboxes in the country and they had to order one from Germany. Hence it's only just been fixed.
I got a quote of £300 to extend my warranty for another year so I'm taking that just in case.
Good luck to all of you still trying to get this issue sorted.

Hopefully Ford will admit there is an issue and resolve this for the owners who aren't as lucky as Rick56 and covered under warranty

My nephews partner has a 125 and it has just started to refuse to go into 2nd gear, couldn’t get it into a dealer until late next week and most were saying November, not sure if that was due to work load or didn’t want the hassle. I’m guessing everyone with the issue ends up with a replacement box or are they repairing them?

Some info from the German site here. Thought I had read here or Facebook that when someone had mentioned the issue either to Ford or their dealer, it was the first they had heard of it !! Must have been forethought then to pre-empt it with a TSB.

Hi, I have the same problem with my 2020 Ford Puma 155 ST-Line X 1st Edition. I'm at £450 up to now, and that's just to strip down to find out what's wrong. Bought the car from a Ford main dealer. Car came with 18 Month 18000 mile warranty. Only had the car for 10 months but I'm 4000 miles over the 18000, so not happy. No Ford garage could offer me a courtecy car until mid to late November! I'm completely stuffed!! Now's the time Ford to show us all if you value us as customers, because up to now, you haven't.

Update 25/10/24....

Just picked the car up from the dealership. New clutch, 1st and 2nd gear and syncro.

£1696.27!!

For anyone who is reading this with the same issue.....fight your corner.

I contacted Ford customer relations and told them that this was totally unacceptable for a car of this age and milage. I sent them a link to this forum and informed them that I had bought a high spec car, from a main Ford dealership with an extended warranty, and all I had got in return is 10 months driving, a major breakdown and a massive repair cost that I couldn't afford. Emailed them on a number of occasions and also spoke to them on the phone. Unbelievably, Ford told me that they considered this to be wear and tear!! Wear and tear!!.....46000 miles......that's how long a Ford gear box lasts??.....really??!! Rubbish!!

Anyway.....fight your corner. Ford knocked over £400 off in the end. I pushed them for more as I don't think I should be paying for poor quality component failures, but they would not increase this figure. The dealership where I had bought if from and then taken the car back to agreed to knock off a bit more and I eventually paid £1050. Still a kick in the teeth though.

Got to say, apart from the dealer not having any courtecy cars, they actually turned the repair round as quick as they could and I am mobile again, so don't really have any bad feeling with regards to them. They were really helpful in the end, although the cynic in me can't help thinking that they might have been over charging me and fitting new components that I didn't need, but I'll never know.

As for Ford, told them that I would make it my mission to never buy another Ford car ever again. Got to say, I've had a lot of Ford cars over the years but this car has got to be the worst build quality out of the lot of them. Break problems, body panelling which looks to be coming away from the car (around wheel arches) and bloody awful front vibrating door panels which render the B&O stereo upgrade useless......and now this!

Don't think that having these cars manufactured in Romania is doing them any favours. Rubbish. Will be keeping it for another year and then getting rid of it......if it lasts that long that is.

Best Ford I ever owned was a G reg Fiesta XR2i back in the day.....That was a fantastic little car. This is not patch on that, and that was 30 years ago.

Perhaps ask your dealer if they have an English version of Fords TSB 23-2410.

You can translate the following to English.
