Late 90s from memory with the Ford Galaxy/VW Sharan.
Makes sense from a cost saving perspective…
The ID 3/4/5/6/7 series are popular cars, so am sure they will do well for Ford too.

While on this subject dont forget Ford's 90's collaboration with Nissan with the Maverick/Terrano II
This prompted Ford to offer the Maverick as the only model in their UK range at the time to come with a standard 3 year warranty.

The current generation won't remember the Capri, maybe that's why they're bringing the name back. Will the Escort be next.

It wouldn't surprise me because Ford already have previous for reviving model names. Resurrecting the iconic Capri name has been rumoured for many years, but looks like they are actually going to do it this time.
Speaking of the Capri...the very first time the name was used back in the early 60's was also a fine looking car.
Other manufacturers have reused model names...Vauxhall for example with their instantly forgettable and short lived Viva in 2015.

Surely a load lugging name like Granada or Scorpio would have been better.

Having said that, we're happily driving pumas and it hasn't done badly from that name.

I'm pleased Ford retain names for their models unlike German, Swedish and French among other manufacturers who prefer numbers which I've always regarded as boring.

Interesting you've got that view of the market. I've heard that the VW electric platform is well behind the competition and the cars are too expensive.

I can't speak for others, but the reason I'm driving a ford currently is because the platform and engine were designed by the same company - it's all in house, no compromises for another brands wishes.

Platform sharing is bad for competition and the consumer. What drives development if you can only get two or three different platforms with different skins on?

I won't be buying anything from Ford that has VW origins. If I wanted a VW I'd buy one direct.

The ID series are good… the software/infotainment etc is pants…
The first gen had a few problems, but they are pretty sorted.
Will agree completely that they are overpriced..
I was offered an ID3 in March23 for 34k. By April they were over 40k.
Decided to go for a noisy ICE instead….

Looks like the residual value of ev's is poor. Lots of people are wary.
