Best ...Escort Mk2 Red 1.6ltr. absolutely fantastic. Simple easy to drive. Nothing much to go wrong and easy to repair. If I had money I would buy another Mk2 and use it (not lock it away) for fun

Fun car... 1999 Puma MK1 1.7, Coupe. Small, Quick and brilliant to drive.

Worst .. Escort Mk5 Face Lift RS2000. Okey perhaps it's sought after these day. But in all honesty, poor build quality, did go that well, bland looking and didn't live up to RS name.

I have a bus pass, an ST and fly a Piper Cherokee Warrior.

Best - Nissan 200SX Garnet red

@robgee, I had the MK1 GTE in polar white and really liked it, was yours the MK2?
MK2 digital dash was they one I had. The ones you could open the doors with half a tennis ball ! Only found this out after it was nicked for the 3rd time.
😁, I loved the more angular shape of the mk1 the only thing I didn't like about it was the wee plastic hub caps kept getting nicked 😲 ...... but they did leave the car😉😁

My first car was the original Escort XR3, which I bought in 1981. I did want an RS2000 but by the time I came out of the Royal Navy the car had been discontinued.
The XR3 was a pain to drive, rock hard suspension, no power steering no ABS. Always wish I had bought a mark one Golf GTI, but haven taken one for a test drive, it had really poor brakes, but still a nice car to drive.

The worst cat was an MG Metro Turbo which I bought in 1983. Although this was also bought brand new, it basically fell to bits around me, and had to be returned to the dealership 14 times in the first year. Had to keep it another year though, and then bought my first Golf, the original Match version, which came with white seats and white carpets. Looked great in the show room, but hard to keep clean.

My best car was a Subaru Impreza STI, which I bought in 2005. Although previously I had a WRX, the STI was a much better car.

Happy days.

1964 Mini 1000 with wide wheels. White with black roof. £80. 1974 I bought it. Sold it three years later for £32.50. I was asking £35 but the alternator packed up the day before the sale so I knocked him £2.50 off so he could buy a new one 🤣🤣🤣

Worst car without doubt was my 1.0 Yellow Toyota Starlet. 0-60 in a day. It never went wrong but it was just awful to drive. Very basic too. I remember the windscreen shattering as it wasn’t laminated. What a lovely drive back from Scarborough with the February breeze gliding through 🤣🤣🤣

Best - Tough call with my Puma just getting edged out by my 1973 MGB Roadster. Loved that car. I polished it twice a week in my early 20’s. Wrote it off on black ice but they only offered me £800 for it. I told them to buy me one in the same condition for that price as I was looking for £1k. In the end they took 12 weeks to rebuild it. Then I realised they had just patched up the bonnet. After it cracked twice they had to replace it - not cheap as it was aluminium. It came back like this:

First car was a Datsun 120y 2 door saloon given to me by a mate who moved away, black windows which would be illegal now, drove it as hard as I could, chassis rot got the better of it after a year.

Worst car mini( clubman front end) with an Austin 1300 engine in it with a cooper head and van den plas dash, drank more oil than petrol, de seamed at the back, blew the diff on it.

Best. Tough one between a cavalier SRi, Astra get 16 v with 204bhp up from 156 which was good 25 years ago plus various other mods got loads of attention and a mk1 focus 1.8 zetec 3dr which I owned for 10 years and apart from service items cost me a coil pack and rear spring. Dealer couldn’t believe the condition when I traded it for a bmw.

Focus wins for ease of ownership, reliability and did everything I needed.

First car
Austin 1300. Parents bought for me when I started learning to drive. Many happy memories….feeling of independence.

Worst car
Probably the same as my first, purely because I blew the engine on it twice, and the footwell filled up with an inch of water every time it rained.

Best car
Difficult to choose as I have fond memories of all of them for different reasons. Really happy with the current Puma, but at a push I’d say my last car - Peugeot 206cc. Great to get the roof down in summer, and it was two fingers up to everyone that said I should get a sensible family saloon now that I had a child. Runner up would be my Vauxhall Nova GTE. It disappointed many a boy racer who assumed it was just a shopping trolley when they were sitting at the traffic lights. Ah….fun times.

First: Ford Fiesta mk1 1.1L. Such a simple little thing, dirt cheap to run, exhausts were £20 to replace. Those days are gone..

Worst.. Tough. Probably a mk3 Escort 1.3. They are just crap cars. Even for the time they were too small, cheaply made, rusty and unrefined. I did have a few other cars which were rust buckets, and objectively worse individual cars due to condition, but I at least had fun in those.

Best: Seat Leon Cupra 290. Tuned to 370bhp, fantastic DSG gearbox, very fast, unshakable on the road. Was totally reliable and was even decent on fuel.
