After a few chats on here recently, I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread for members to give or ask advice on cleaning and valeting related topics or just show off some of your efforts.
For me, I’m just an OCD amateur who enjoys a clean car. I’d be keen to learn from those more knowledgable or to give my opinion on what works for me (but may not necessarily be deemed as correct to others).
I know there’s plenty of info and dedicated forums out there for detailing and can see there’s so much to learn. It’s an absolute minefield.
Thanks.
Car cleaning and valeting discussion
This is what I got up to yesterday afternoon. Instead of cleaning the mats and interior of the Puma I decided to give the engine bay of my wife’s Fiesta a little tidy up. Not 100% but it’ll do til the better weather.

I’m not brave enough to use a pressure wash in the engine bay.
I went with a waterless method using APC, various brushes and relegated micro fibre cloths, finishing off with some dressing on the plastic and hoses. I’m tempted to get a handheld steamer for the more stubborn and intricate areas.

I wish I had the inclination to do my own cleaning, I do like the look of well cleaned car...A spring detailing valet sees me through with a fortnightly visit to the hand carwash thereafter.

I haven't actually opened the bonnet on this car since I bought it five months ago. I am pretty sure I know what's in there.

I am old enough to remember an ancient candid camera feature, where they removed the engine from a car, an let it roll down a hill to a garage at the bottom of the hill. The mechanic was asked to come out and take a look as the engine wouldn't start. He was somewhat confused.Wdf76 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 21, 2021 2:52 pmMight be worth checking.....
