Tyre and Car manufacturers test them constantly and produce the best tyre for the best performance of that vehicle.
That may or may not produce different treads and tread depths.
It's not a system to cheat anyone and lower costs, if it was they would just fit cheap Chinese tyres from day one...
Can't beat a good conspiracy theory though.... ;) :D
I like my conspiracy theories lol. Here's one for you regarding the EV.

The EV isn't the thought of the governments of the world. It is just one company forcing the issue resulting in all of the other manufacturers of the world to transfer their efforts to EV. When they fail and collapse the company behind the push will be there to pick up the pieces and will have world domination of car production.

Only one man can stop world domination but he's dead now.

There you go you see. World domination of the car industry by the Chinese. Evidently the Chinese have taken massive steps with EV's which is one of the reasons why Europe is pushing it as they are worried they will be behind with the technology.......Heard that a few years ago but Europe forget to keep the prices competitive. Everyone has there limit and although we are an all Ford family who is going to pay well over £40k for a Capri. Road tax coming soon for EV's and the £40k threshold will mean higher road tax. For anyone who leases a car or gets one on PCP and chucks it in for another they may as well get something like a BYD and save money. Years ago there was a small motorbike shop I used to get some spares from and he sold Chinese scooters and small motorbikes. He said the engines were excellent, basically a copy of a Honda engine but getting spares was a nightmare.

Anyway I have diverted the topic so on the subject of tyres, heavier cars like EVs are just going to pollute the rivers with more rubber pollution.
