Rear Windscreen Washer Puma ST Line

Just coming up to the first 1000 miles in my Ford Puma ST Line Vignali. I'm puzzled as I have not been able to get the rear wiper to stay on. Misty rain, and low cloud yesterday, and on a longish trip I needed to keep pushing the Rear Wiper Wash button to clear the screen. Is this the only mode of operation or am I missing something???? Switch on the end of the stalk changes the mode...

You can buy a hard copy of the manual.
Puma ST-Line-Vignale 155 manual, magnetic grey, DAP, electric tailgate. New in December 2021.
