I’ve not used it personally, but using it after SRP would definitely help seal in the gloss and fillers. Laying down a wax or sealant after polishing is something I’d recommend. With this being applied to a wet surface, it’ll make the process quicker as you’re putting on protection whilst drying. I’d steer clear of the windscreen in case you get smearing from the wipers.

There’s quite a few wet coat application products out there, some of which are sealants (like Polar Seal) others carnauba or ceramic based. Great for speed or during the winter when using a paste wax and waiting for it to cure isn’t ideal.

NeilS, after much frustration I visited a wheel refurbishing company today. They say the stains are not removable so the price for the full wheel refurb is £80. It takes two + days and will be re - machined and painted which is a satin finish. I'm going to another company on Thursday so will keep you posted. Fortunately I have a space saver wheel which they will fit so I will not be without the car.

That’s a shame. Did they give an opinion on what it was?

I take it that the polish didn’t help?

Rates Ford have a replacement for £179 - if you were worried that the company wouldn’t be able to match it up with the others.

£80 is very cheap for a machine cut refinish.

It normally works out cheaper to junk the damaged wheel and buy new.

The polish didn't help. They can't remove the stains or whatever they are and the wheel needs to be recut. The company has a good reputation and on my visit I did see some high value Mercedes and BMW's getting the treatment. The Ford dealers should all charge the same price if I choose that route but that probably won't include tyre fitting and wheel balancing + new valve which the £80 does include. I'll decide before the weeks out and keep you posted. Thanks for all your help and advice, it's much appreciated.

No problem. Had hoped for a better outcome.

NeilS, almost forgot. I was also told there is no need to polish the alloys because of the satin finish. Just keep them clean and maybe use a sealer. I have some Poor Boys paste which is a sealer/protector and that's worked well for me with some previous diamond cut alloys.
