OK - so the battery is a brand new Varta which was fully charged before it was fitted. I've just been on a 30 mile run, to see if it would show a decent charge afterwards. I stopped half way and got a reading of 12.2v - which was encouraging as it's the highest I've ever seen. However when I got home it was showing only 11.7v on the ETM.

The dealership think it could be a sensor as the Rombat was tested and was fine when they took it off. They also re-set the battery management system.

It's going in Thursday for checking and might be off the road a couple of days.

I feel like we are getting somewhere but it's so annoying to have the car off the road again. My Focus only went in for services from 2016 to May this year.

Not the best start 🙈
Forgive me if I have this wrong but don't see this as a big issue - my Puma, when it ever arrives, is gonna be manual so this message is not really going to be an issue. Plus, it's only going to show IF I download the app and connect it up. Never had an app for a car so current thinking is I don't need it. Not worried about MPG, not worried about tracing my previous route. So for those who have the app - is it worth it?

@Curryhouse, it's nothing to do with the app.
I have a manual and I was suffering from a 12v battery that would not hold a charge. The app, along with the sync 3 head unit, merely report the low charge issue. If you're not worried about getting a jump start in the winter then you'll be just fine! But of course not everyone has a defective battery.

Didn't say it was. My point was if I don't download the app then I will never see the message.

Yes you will, sync 3 reports the systems are closing down. And various things stop working

It affects more than just the App. You might find that you try and reverse and your beepers are very very faint. Or you might find when your car stops at the end of a journey with the start/stop that it doesn't remind you to switch the engine off. Maybe the alarm won't work if you get it broken into or, like me, maybe the alarm will go off for no reason when the battery gets too low. Maybe the radio will turn off to preserve the battery. The list is endless and if it goes into Deep Sleep all those things could happen.

Not all cars are having problems but those that are are seeing some, if not all of those issues at certain times. Basically whatever the 12v battery runs could be affected.

Anyway - if Ford are selling connected cars then they should work. Not downloading the App is not an option if you want your car to perform as it should.

Fully charged automotive batteries should measure at 12.6 volts or above. When the engine is running, this measurement should be 13.7 to 14.7 volts.

Mine's just back from two days in the garage, has still got the new Varta and has had all the modules checked and updated. Sensor checked too. Everything is as it should be according to the dealership.

I'm hoping that's the end of the sleep issues but having checked it on the ETM it was still only showing 11.9v when he returned it. If that's after 2 days on charge then it's a little worrying.

I'm not bothered about the ETM reading so much - more about the way the battery now performs. If it keeps the car connected and working then I will be happy.

If I do have any more issues then my first port of call will be a battery specialist to see what he can find out. The dealership has not washed their hand of the issue. It's more "see how it goes now".

Anyway - it's the weekend. Out for a few beers tonight.

Enjoy :)

I know this is going to sound bonkers but I found my fix to the issue is actually to put more strain on the electronics while driving, when the blowers are off my charge state sits around 12.3v with the car running, which trickle charges the battery, when I turn the radio up or the air con on, it'll activate the mild hybrid system for accessory power and the voltage will go up to 14.7 while driving, I've not had any issues with the sleep notifications since, it's the "alternator / hybrid motor" not kicking in because there is a lack of drain so it just allows the battery to discharge.
