You can start it and take the fob with you, and lock it . That’s what I do. Unless of course you drive the automatic where you can remote start it from the app in the first place.

Recently I kicked off the WiFi software update with the engine running while in range of the home WiFi, locked the car and went inside for a cuppa. No problems.
