Spare wheel storage

I was reluctant to give up my space saver spare wheel so thought I would try this. My megabox is the triangular type so I bought a piece of ply board cut to size then covered with carpet material same as used to line cupboards in motor homes and the like. Spray glue was used for bonding. Covers the megabox perfectly. Spare wheel lives in its bag which has some gloves, cloths and other useful bits for changing a wheel. The boot floor is set to the higher level and the space is just about ok to store the wheel. The wheel could be strapped down which I haven't done yet. The carpet colour is almost perfect. See pics.

Good job that - I’m bothered about no spare wheel so may pick up a space saver up and try something similar. Thanks for posting.

Nice neat job there....
I'm not that worried about having a spare wheel as long as I'm with Ford Assist (AA). I was in a mates car when we had a blow out (Tyre shred) on the motorway. It was far too dangerous to mess about trying to change it. We waited about 20 minutes for the AA and got sorted nice and safely.

Further to my original megabox cover I've now moved to plan B which is much better and being a snug fit allows for a flatter floor area. I came up with the idea but it was my son-in-law who fabbed it up. There is still easy access to the box for the jack etc and I've retained the compressor kit so now have choices.

Cost of the plywood, carpet and glue less than £20. Labour was free.

It's a 16" space saver which I bought for my previous car a Mokka X. I've tried it on the front of my Puma and it's fine. Purchased from The Wheel Shop, Manchester. Get the jack and wheel brace which are in a bag so all neat and tidy.

I'm sure the dealer wants more for the full kit.
