A point to think about, where a modification is made to a vehicle, which might affect the warranty, or insurance, if the insurers have not approved it, is this. You will usually only become involved with insurers if something goes wrong, such as an accident. In that event, you might be injured, or the car might be damaged, so that it is impossible to open the bonnet. In either case, you might not have the chance to remove the modification and it could come to light after the car has been taken away and examined. Heaven forbid that the accident was your fault and someone is seriously injured and entitled to many thousands of pounds in compensation. It is at that point that the insurers could say that they are not liable to indemnify you (or, if they do, under the Motor Insurers Bureau scheme, that they are entitled to recover their layout from you). Could be disastrous. I suppose you would have to be unlucky for this to happen, but the risk is there.
A refusal by Ford to accept a warranty claim would be likely to be less costly, but still a nuisance.
