I would be very interested to look at cars where the yellow release lever is genuinely not visible at all from any angle with bonnet closed.
Well it's not visible on mine, I've even been out to double check it. From the side, and front and even kneeling down (well as low as I was prepared to go  ) and no sign of it.

Had a good look to see if the catch is visible when th bonnet is closed. Nothing, from any angle.

That would be extremely thick paper!

My point is I don't see how it would be possible completely hide the catch.
I think the only way would be if there was a piece of rubber inside sealing the gap like I have seen on other cars.
I said at the beginning that I don't consider this an issue and it really doesn't bother me, because the catch is only visible if viewed from a specific angle. :)

I agree with the paper point, however what angle would you have to be to see it?....I've looked all over mine and not seen it. I have the same view as Rizmo's photos, just a long dark line.
Maybe it's an ST thing.... ;) :D

I was visiting my dad when I made my last post with car parked in his driveway, so I looked closely and took photos when I was leaving.
I struggled to see anything in the gap but could just make out the yellow bonnet release lever, although for some reason my camera could not pick it up.
When I got home and put my car in the garage (which is where I have always noticed it) and took another photo at a similar angle to the first one...maybe just a bit lower down.
The result is plain to see so it is not only the angle that is critical but the light also.
The last photo is a close up while in my garage.

I can't replicate that even with a torch, if I get the torch to shine deep down into the gap and backwards, I can just about see the yellow top of the latch, but it's only a thread like distant glimpse. That only confirms, to me, that it's way back and out of sight.
I guess like everything it depends on who fitted it and what mood they were in along the line. The smallest of deviations would raise it just enough to bring it further into view...
As you say, not noticeable day to day and I guess it could get a black makeover if it was,......Fascinating... :?

here is the extremely thick paper.( its the Sun Saturday magazine x 1.5 )
multiple sheets, and then measured with my trusty imperial micrometer.
no sign of the catch though, wrong daylight
but, i know the catch is just to the right of the paper,

Ahhhh.....so when you said paper ithickness is 180 thou you actually meant multiple sheets folded over.
By coincidence I am a Turner to trade.
Yep...definitely the wrong kind of daylight you got there. :D

It's a Ford.
Stuff like this is standard - they didn't take the car and attention of other manufacturers in finishing the car to a higher standard.
They're more obsessed with cost cutting than giving you a nicely polished finished product.
