Private plate transfer

How can I transfer my plate onto my Puma, when I’m able to get it. Yes I know about the fee, but according to the DVLA website I will be assigned a new reg, but it says I’ve got to send off the vc5 which could be 4 to 6 weeks ( longer with the lockdown) and, can I get new plates made somewhere?, I don’t want to lose my reg but I also don’t want to be unable to use my car if I don’t have any new plates to put on, and I can’t drive it with the old number plate, do you think the dealer will do all that for me on collecting the car??, hope this makes sense,

My dealer has always transferred plates for me as part of the deal as long as you have got a retention certificate for your private plate.
