As you say, puma defaults to normal mode everytime it's switched off. A bit frustrating but that's how it is. My default is sport mode as I like the throttle response and the increased regen from the mild hybrid.
My pull away sequence is 1st gear, press the mode button 3 times, then release the handbrake, before enjoying the clunk of frozen brakes.
I’ve not had much chance to try anything other than normal so far
My pull away sequence is often select drive or reverse, press accelerator, wonder why I’m not moving, release handbrake...
I find the somewhat numb throttle response of the eco-mode akin to that my of Kuga which is a 2.0 Diesel, so for me it isn't that "numb" however using sport mode it does feel like driving a different car!

I topped the tank on Jan 7th, since then travelled 95m, Ford app says 296m left. I won't be topping up for a while as the gauge shows 3/4 full. The only thing I've done different is last weekend I installed the F9 map update. This was done with the car stationary with a battery charger connected to avoid running the engine. After a while I had to run the motor as the charger couldn't keep up to complete the map update. The miles left reduced over the period by around 20m. Maybe that has something to do with it.
