Back to mid 40's this month. Quite surprised. I've taken to using the speed limiter everywhere once again. Great for fuel saving.

100km to miles = (0.621 X 100) = 62.1 miles

So you're doing 4.4L per 62.1 miles, which is (62.1/4.4) = 14.11 miles per litre

1 gallon = 4.54 Litres

So if you're doing 14.11miles in 1L, in a gallon (4.54L), you're doing (14.11X 4.54) = 62.1 mpg

Seems a VERY optimistic onboard reader lol

I've got a Maths degree, but I'm not vain if someone wants to show if I got any of those calculations wrong!

282.481 seems to be the magic figure for converting l/100km to mpg, any idea where that came from?

C'mon, someone must be able to get it into the 20s!
I'd try, but it would have to with me and not in the dealership for repair 😐

Hiya, yes, i just had a play with the numbers (maths guys do that lol) and it's easy enough.

Values might differ a little though, as different countries use slightly different imperial number systems (like when you hear US youtube reviewers saying their Miata is like 5.7 0-60mph etc, and you think is it a different car!)

Anyway, the 282 (ish figure):

You convert km to miles. 1 Km is about 0.62 miles, so 100 km ('a hundred of them') is (100 X 0.62) = 62 miles

So 1L/100km (same thing as L/100km, as in maths, if 'nothing' is in front of a letter, it's the same as having 1 in front of it, like 1x is the same as x, if you get what i mean) is saying: 'that's 1 litre to 62 miles'

Finally, 1 gallon of petrol holds 4.54 litres
So if 1 litre gives 62 miles, then 4.54 litres (the number of litres in a gallon) gives 4.54 x 62 = 281.48

Hope that explains it!

Isn't it awful where MPG, or even worse litres per 100km, become the measure of a good car. Glad I'm a down hill racer!

👍 Thank you for taking the time to explain.

Funny how the bench mark sprint time always used to be 0-60mph. Then 'just like that' it became 0-62 (100kmh). We still seem to call it 0-60 though.
