Does anyone know if the Puma engines still feature Cylinder Deactivation technology? Can't see it mentioned anywhere in Ford's promotional blurb these days.

Puma’s 1.0-litre EcoBoost and EcoBoost Hybrid powertrains also feature Ford’s industry-first cylinder deactivation system for a three-cylinder engine, which automatically switches off one the engine’s cylinders when full capacity is not needed, such as when coasting or cruising. The system can disengage or re-engage one cylinder in 14 milliseconds.

@wdf76 posted an article in another thread viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1015 that stated is was being discontinued in the Netherlands and possibly worldwide. Wondered if anyone had heard anything along these lines. Ford seem to be changing their builds very frequently these days without any notice so wouldn't be surprised if it's already history! Can't see it mentioned in current marketing literature.

It's interesting reading all the comments (on this site and the other linked in another thread) my Puma seems to suffer from this quite badly so I assume it was still being added on 10/2020 built cars (like mine).

I tend to run around in eco a lot of the time (my commute averages 50mph) so it makes sense to be as frugal, usually stuck behind a HGV or tractor etc so no real opportunity to floor it, but it does shudder a lot when following the shift up indications.

Coming from a 4 cylinder diesel I thought this was just the peculiar nature of 3 cylinders, they are by nature "unbalanced" after all, but reading all the posts is exactly what I have. Some days the whole car lurches around like a yo yo if you even sneeze near the throttle.

Ignore the gear change indicators and drive the car like you drove all those others you've owned without.
I have no problems with lurching or judders when accelerating, I take no notice of the Gear change indicators. They are set purely for economy because the EU laws state that the manufacturer must install them.

Yeah, I find the gear shift upchange recommendations to be too low on most cars and will result in the engine labouring especially if you are not on the flat. For economy, you need to be changing up about 5 mph above these depending on conditions and for performance, you should go to the top of the power band.

Like Sparks says, ignore the indicators.
