The service interval is 2years OR 18,000, whichever occurs first.

I will generally change the oil every 7500 km. I do not like to keep the engine oil above these kilometers.
Like and need are two different things. If it makes you feel better then change the oil, it will still be a waste of money, but, you will feel good.
I watched a YouTube video where an eco boost engine had low oil pressure. The strainer on the oil pickup pipe had become blocked with debris. The debris was wear from the cam belt which runs in the oil. Changing the oil on a regular basis might help reduce the build up of debris and clogging of the oil strainer.

I would get oil and filter change every year regardless the miles, to keep the rubber belt in good order as well your engine
Only if you are keeping the car

Over the past few years, my annual mileage has been circa 9k per year, so fits nicely with the 2 year service schedule. I will probably not change the oil between services.

If I decide to take the car on a long holiday (maybe a 3k-4k mile drive) I might change the oil and filter earlier myself, but will not pay Ford dealer prices (just the cost of a can of oul and a filter).

Not making that much km/miles per year, I'd consider to make an earlier basic service myself, anyway.
I agree I won't pay ford prices for a simple oil change, as long I don't have the certainty they're going to use the correct oil. Since I guess I'm keeping the veichle quite a long time then, I want to keep the engine in shape.
I'll decide arrived to the 2 years/mileage, to bring the car for a scheduled service.

Here's my take on things:- As a retired aircraft engineer, specialising in propulsion systems, I've got a great deal of "mechanical sympathy". I also tend to keep my cars for a long time so I like to look after them. In my lifetime I've seen oil change intervals increase from 3k miles to 20k miles or more. Most of this is undoubtedly due to technology advances in both the oil and the engines. I still believe a lesser reason for increased service intervals is to make the car more attractive to fleet buyers and these cars will have been sold on before any problems associated with increased intervals rear their head.

I've been supplying my own engine oil since about 1990. FWIW I'm a fan of Millers oils. I first started using their diesel oil in 1991 on a car that had a 12k service interval (long for its time) and they had this great free of charge service where you could suck out 50ml of your oil, post it to them and they would analyse it and tell you if it was going to last the duration. Anyway, I'm waffling now. Currently my wife and I both have 125 ecoboost Fiestas and we don't do more that 5K on each so they get serviced annually. If I don't end up cancelling this much delayed Puma order (should find out tomorrow), my plan is to service it at the 2 year interval but to change the oil at the 12 month point. I reckon we will be doing only about 8k miles a year so I'm happy to leave the genuine Ford oil filter in place but change the oil itself. I intend to buy one of those suction pumps that you shove down the dipstick hole. Yes, I know they don't get every last drop of oil out but its certainly better than leaving all of the oil in for 2 years. Its a cost vs benefits calculation. Obviously if I was flushed (pun intended) I would pay a dealer to do an oil and filter change every year.

Very accurate. There's a more simple fact though, I guess.
Basic Warranty is 2 years. The car would be yours way longer after the 2 years of the warranty covering. In case of damage who will pay the broken parts after the warranty time ?

Mechanics know better than their customer which are the real results in not taking care of the service intervals. They know perfectly that the intervals published are just business moves in order to attract new customers.
Wise mechanics suggest you to anticipate a oil change and so on, they do open engines and change oil everyday. It's almost impossible to find a perfect condition oil at the scheduled service time.

Our ecoboost engine then need at least the oil and Oli filter change way before the suggested service interval in my opinion.
The famous wet timing belt is very sensitive to wear. So is the sump oil pump.

Ford is more than happy to repair a destroyed engine, after the warranty time.

Used to agree with changing oil every year regardless, but i think progress in oils and engines has reduced the need. Look at spark plugs used to be every year or so now can got 60000 miles without replacing.
I have had vans for years Merc sprinters with 200k on them after 5 years and my last transit had 130K after 4 years and was only oil changed every 30 000 miles and never drank a drop or missed a beat.
I think engine life depends more on using the right quality oil and making sure it is kept topped up if your car uses any, also allowing the car to warm up gently before hitting the fun button and turbo engines allow to idle a little before turning off.
I don't suppose it does harm to change the oil but also don't think it does any harm leaving it to the manufactures service intervals especially on any car your going to hand back or trade in, my previous car was a bmw service int 2 yrs or 20k it had nearly 80000 miles on when i sold it, ran like a dream and never used any oil.
Having said all that if i got an ST and thought i was keeping it or selling on to family it would get an oil change once a year.

Think the ST is 1year service intervals.

Hi there, I have a question. What if your oil life indicator on the forspass app advice you to have the oil changed but you ignore it, does the warranty decease? Let's say it would show the warning 0% at 1000 miles for instance.
You ignore and make the service at the 20k miles or so.
Thanx!
