Hi, have driven Ford’s all my life, from Escort to Focus to Kuga and now Puma. In all these years I have had no problems whatsoever but sad to say I am now suffering the same battery problems as a whole lot of other people. Getting the message that says it’s shutting down to preserve battery power. Thought I would ask before I contact dealership, has anyone had any resolution to their problems? Read on one post that changing to a Varta battery might help, anyone done that and if so did it help? Thanks in advance for anyinfo.

Sorry to hear about your problem. I can't much help either other than to say that I have seen it mentioned a few times on here and I had assumed the battery change must have helped
I feel lucky in a way in that I knew I was going to get an automatic, and when I bought mine in September the automatic did not have a hybrid version
good luck with your fix

So we know from experience now that a cheap 'rombat' 12v battey is the cause of most electrical problems. Most that have had issues have had their 12v battery replaced with a better quality item.

You could push your dealer for this or replace it yourself.

Another cause could be just how you are using your car, short journeys etc will do you no favours eapecially during the winter months where you are heavily depleting the 12v system. This isnt a isolated problem with Ford. Lockdown has really changed all our driving habits and usage.

I have had my Puma for over a year now. I have the rombat battery. The only time I ever had battery warnings was during lockdown 1.0 when I was furloughed. Since then I've been commuting daily and have had no issues with the electrical system.

I get the 'Deep Sleep' mode even after an 80 mile trip. Whatever the cause, I've not had battery problems in a car since the early 90's, certainly never in a new car.

It's becoming apparent that the Rombat is not up to it but there won't be a recall. It looks like a regular complaint to the dealer while still under warranty might eventually bear fruit. I've had the sleep warning a few times despite using the car a couple of times a week for 40 mile+ runs.

Mines booked in for the problem on the 23rd, so I'll let you know the outcome.......Not hopeful of dealer changing battery without a battle.

What's the cars build date?

I maintain that the Rombat is not the problem, as sulfated batteries of any brand won't hold charge as well.

December 2019....Seems that a battery change does indeed fix it, whether this is a coincidence along with other rectifications (don't know what) is up for debate.
