I take it you have disabled your car’s modem :D
I was wondering why Jeff Goldblum was hanging around my Puma with a laptop...

OK, hands up, I don't have any special knowledge of this, but that modem is connected to my WiFi only, which is a WPA2 encrypted signal.

So what is the hacker's way in?

The modem is also connected to the 4g network, so it might be a way in? Also wpa2 has been vulnerable to attack in the past and we don’t know how up to date the firmware/software is in the Puma

I know Microsoft made SYNC at the start and lost the contract, but is the current version even based on the windows backend or didn't they shift to QNX?

OK, this is my ill-educated understanding, so if someone has in-depth knowledge of these systems, it would be good to have a greater understanding.

The inbuilt SIM is 4G, and its purpose is to transmit diagnostic and usage data back to Ford. It's a one-way street, and the car's software has no facility to receive data via that route. Even if it did, I'd hope that the car's software would recognise with whom it was communicating with adequate encryption and security. But I can't see any need for it.

The modem is transmit/receive via the router, so updates can only be carried out locally And then that's stuff like map updates, not base software. (If someone breaks into WPA2, the Puma will be the last of our worries. We are all in the shit.)

Base software can only be updated via a flash drive.

Have I got that right?
