Good afternoon - just wondering if anyone has experienced a noticeable "sshhhhing" sound from brakes when applied at low speed, for example pulling into driveway. Appears to be becoming more and more obvious, and now wondering whether I'm hearing noises at other speeds, or just imagination.

Sounds similar to when brake pads require replacement, but just covered over 4k, since purchasing new in Sept. Whether related or not, I sometimes hear a clunk when disengaging handbrake (and when it occurred this morning it was not frozen, circa 7 deg).

There was a couple of flooded sections of road prior to Christmas - maybe grit ?

Thanks in advance.

Brad.

Normal for winter in my experience...Salt etc....Does the noise diminish with use? I only use brakes lightly and notice that it goes with harder pedal use....Pulling onto your drive will be light brake use I'm guessing...

The pads can stick to the discs anytime of the year. After being parked for a couple of days my Puma gives quite a bang when driving off and for the first couple of brake pedal uses you get a grinding noise which is not a fault, it's the pads cleaning the discs. To stop the sticking pads I chock a rear wheel and leave it in reverse with handbrake off as I'm on a slight slope and that cures the problem. Every car with disc brakes I've owned does this

Thanks for responses folks.
I'm not sure that the noise does diminish after time, however it is mostly short journeys I'm currently undertaking due to restrictions.
I'm quite a light braker, although i would say that the braking performance does seem fine when i need to brake hard.
I'll keep an eye on the issue and see how it pans out over next few weeks.

Thanks again.

I live very close to the sea, and the salt corrodes the discs very fast. I leave the handbrake off and put it in Park.

Mine is same. Garaged but have to leave it in gear with handbrake off as last time it happened brakes totally binding and took quite effort to free. Not had the problem with previous fords

Glad I saw this, mine did the dreaded clunk yesterday ! now has a clicking sound where I guess the pad was stuck ... hopefully it will wear away.
What are peoples thoughts on the Mhev battery not being charged / discharged while sitting on the drive for long periods during lockdown ?

Found my car again today - now the snow has melted.... :D Anyway, decided to give it a run, released handbrake and reversed, waited for the clunk and ...nothing...Smooth as butter. Temperamental then...I'll see how long that lasts.
