I think I have a similar problem. The car is connected to my home wifi. Activate the sync update option, and am informed that everything is up to date, but map version is shown as F10.
Any advice for a technophobe?
What version of SYNC are you running ? To be offered F11 maps you need to be running the latest SYNC.
What do you see when you go via the internet?
Enter your Ford VIN and to check for updates >> https://secure.ford.co.uk/owner/resourc ... h/update#/ <<
Thanks - it shows that i have new software available. Gives me the option to download on to my tablet, but how do I then transfer from the tablet to the car, as there is no usb outlet on my tablet.
And yes, it also tells me that I need to update to the latest sync, but gives me no information as to how I do that.
.
Can't be done on a tablet. Has to be either USB stick (via a PC) or by WiFi.

There is absolutely no compulsion to update. Just leave it and everything will run as normal. I had a C-Max for 4 and half years and I never updated Sync and the Maps. I occasional found myself driving across a field but it was obvious I was on a new road :D

Of course, the other option is to just plug in your phone and use Android auto/Apple CarPlay. Or you can set up Android Auto wireless so it just works automatically when you get in the car. Either way, you won't have to worry about Ford updating maps. Sync however, is a different kettle of fish.

It’s vehicle specific see under the troubleshooting part to generate one 👍

The XML file will be unique to your vehicle, so nobody can provide it.

Here is the extract from the instruction FAQs:

7. The update in the vehicle was successful but I cannot find the log file that I should upload back onto the Ford server? How can I create the log file (again)?

The log file is stored in the SyncMyRide folder on the USB Flash Drive. The filename includes SYNC + serial number + VIN and has the extension .xml.

If the file was not created or deleted by mistake, you can download the logging tool separately from the Ford SYNC & Maps software update website (https://www.ford.co.uk/owner/resources- ... h/update#/)(in the Troubleshooting section). Extract it to a USB Flash Drive. Please make sure that following files and folders are in the root folder of the USB Flash Drive:

· One folder with the title “SyncMyRide” including system update files
· One file “autoinstall.lst”
· One file “DONTINDX.MSA

Plug-in the USB Flash Drive into your vehicle’s USB port and wait approximately two minutes until an “Installation complete…” Pop-up appears on the screen.

Please consider, the format of the USB Flash Drive needs to be exFat. Otherwise the log file will not be created. To change the format please see FAQ item “How do I format the USB Flash Drive?”

Sounds about right then you’ll have the new one in there too. Takes under a minute to generate 👍

What a "bag of proverbial" this update process is. I've tried twice to update the software in hope I get access to the F11map update. Twice its failing at the point I upload the log files to ford. Even tried just using the interrogator file. Sod it... why the hell ford just won't let it ALL update via wireless, god knows.
