Does anyone know if it’s possible to unzip just parts of the maps update and apply piecemeal maybe two or three at a time?
In theory this should work as that’s the way automatic updates work…
This should save an awful lot of heartache for us and avoid the car running for long periods or interrupted updates causing error messages.
Anyone tried or willing to try?

My update journey:
Started with build 19274, F8 maps and Gracenote 1.1.1.1319. All updates were done via usb.

Downloaded and installed a 907mb Sync update, this updated to ver 20351, and took about 7 mins.
Updated Ford website, which now said I could download a 20.9GB map update.
Installed part 1 of that (1hr 7 mins), then it rebooted, then part 2 (or was it part 1 again, since it suspiciously also took 1hr 7 mins?)
It confirmed update to ver 20351, and maps were now F9.
Updated Ford website which said I could now download a 3.03GB Sync update.
Installed that, took 30 mins. It confirmed software now 21020 and gracenote 1.1.1.2316.
Updated Ford website, which now said I could download a 23.7GB maps update.
Installed part 1 of that (1hr 5 mins), then it rebooted, then part 2 (or, again, I suspect it was part 1 again, 1hr 5 mins).
Crucially!!! Didn't press ok this time until I was ready to do a key cycle.
Did key cycle, it installed something for a couple of mins then said all updated fine.
Maps now F10, software still 21020, Gracenote still 1.1.1.2316.
Logged on to Ford website which said I was all up to date. I suspect it must have uploaded the file over my home wifi?
Uploaded the xml file to Ford website anyway, which confirmed again that I'm up to date.

Haven't played about with it yet to see if anything is different.

What a pain in the diddies tho, owners shouldn't need to put themselves through that.

this is getting to be silly now, know someone with a new full electric audi and all updates are done automatically and in the background and they are not having to spending hours updating software.

don't understand why it takes an hour to download files from a USB stick ?

Sooo, a little bird tells me that you can update sync/maps without the engine running. Just switch to accessory mode, insert your usb stick but crucially leave the driver’s door open. Leaving the door open apparently defeats the shutdown and battery saving mode.
Friend of a friend has a Kuga and this worked for him. Admittedly his was inside his garage but if you’re in a secure area maybe worth a try?
Think I’ll see if this works for the OTA updates rather than downloading in 30 minute segments?

Its possible to do see https://community.cyanlabs.net/t/sync-3 ... les/3233/2

You will need to name the files you want in autoinstall.lst

eg

Open1 = SyncMyRide\4U5T-14G422-BAF_1615431156000.TAR.GZ
Item2 = VOICE_NAV - 4U5T-14G422-BBF_1615431222000.TAR.GZ
Open2 = SyncMyRide\4U5T-14G422-BBF_1615431222000.TAR.GZ
Item3 = VOICE_NAV - 4U5T-14G422-BCF_1615431448000.TAR.GZ
Open3 = SyncMyRide\4U5T-14G422-BCF_1615431448000.TAR.GZ
Item4 = VOICE_NAV - 4U5T-14G422-BDF_1615431510000.TAR.GZ

Had mine out today and since last week it is saying maps have updated to f10 and it is still downloading through WiFi. Still not got dab logos on audio full screen and still cannot get it to download from my usb although it recognises it is plugged in and reads the file heading.

One question for all the computer geniuses my usb has the main name scandisk and then a sub folder and when I format I do both of these because I cannot get the sub folder to disappear, any advise/ help appreciated.
Thinking out load might see which I have saved the files in and try and move them to the other folder on the usb.

So in the root of your usb you should see something like this

PXL_20210619_214009516.jpg

I always download the file to my desktop then extract it to the usb. Sometimes you get the DONTIDX file sometimes not !
