Apologies may be wrongly phrased. I mean the rotary light switch on the dash. Turned to the off position. Turn off engine etc then next start up the switch is illuminated in the auto position

Ahh I see... Sorry, misread. Not noticed that one. I've always just left the headlamp dial in auto position. If the car thinks the lights should be on, I'll not argue.

I don,t see a problem in that , especialy with led lighting it doesn,t take much energy.
Added bennefit is you can,t drive of in the dark without your lights on .

I think it's a safety feature for cars with auto lights. I used to see a lot of people just driving about with DRLs on and no rear lights at all.
I think they should let the taillights come on ..... together with the DRLS.
Shouldn,t be to difficult technical and It is all led light ayway

If that's the case, why bother with the switch? I must be old school. Prefer to be able to judge when lights should be on not some random sensor.
Maybe you can ask your dealer to cut a few wires so it doesn,t work anymore
